WHAT: Special Olympics 2014 USA National Games
WHEN: June 14 – 21, 2014
Opening Ceremony: June 15, 2014
Closing Ceremony: June 20, 2014
WHO: 3,500 athletes from 50 states
1,000 coaches and official delegates
18,000 athletes’ family members and friends
10,000 volunteers
30,000 estimated spectators
WHERE: The Games and competition will be based around the
Greater Princeton/ Mercer County New Jersey. These areas include Princeton University, Rider College, The College of New Jersey, Mercer County Park, The Lawrenceville School
SPORTS: Competition will include:
Athletics (Track & Field) Gymnastics (Rhythmic)
Aquatics (Swimming) Powerlifting
Basketball Softball
Bocce Soccer
Bowling Tennis
Flag Football Volleyball
Golf
PROGRAMMING: Educational seminars will be offered to athletes and
their families. Additional programming will be aimed
to increase public knowledge and understanding of
the capabilities of people with intellectual disabilities.
EXHIBITS: Major sponsors and area businesses will host a
Festival Area filled with information and activities for
Games attendees.
VOLUNTEERS: Volunteers will be a key component to the success
and the overall. Over 8,000 individual will be needed
to assist with the competition and signature events.
How are Athletes selected to compete in National Games??
- Special Olympics Wyoming puts in a quota for specific events for athletes and partners to compete.
- The athletes selected to participate are chosen from the previous years’ competition; athletes that win GOLD in the quota events at these games are selected at random to advance to National Games. Multiple alternates are chosen as well.
- Special Olympics Wyoming athletes will be selected to attend the 2014 National Games from the 2013 State Summer Games, 2013 Fall Tournament, and 2013 Golf Tournament.
